"In a Madrid hotel, the lights go out right at the beginning of a meeting of the Spanish Communist Party's Central Committee. It's only a brief moment--but when the lights return to the room, General Secretary Fernando Garrido is slumped over the table, stabbed. Suspicion naturally falls on the Central Committee members (they all have a motive). The official investigation is handed over to Chief Inspector Fonseca, a Francoist police officer, which angers the communists, who hire a private investigator, Pepe Carvalho, a Catalan of Galician origin, a former communist, former CIA agent, gourmet, and old acquaintance of Fonseca. The research - sinuous, comical, erotic and melancholic, as well as gastronomic - takes us to the closed world and history of the Communist Party and its "sensitivities", but also to the environment of post-Franco Spain and the mythical universe of one of the great creators of the European detective novel." --
